FolioPrivacy Policy
Folio keeps your library on your device. The only thing that leaves it is a book-metadata lookup when you search for or scan a title.
The short version
Folio has no account and no server of ours. Your shelf, progress, notes, ratings and goals are stored locally. When you search for or scan a book, the title or ISBN is sent to Google Books to fetch cover art and metadata — and nothing else is.
What we collect
Nothing. Folio has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDK and no telemetry. The developer cannot see what you read, because your library is never transmitted to us.
What the app stores, and where
Books, reading progress, notes, ratings, start and finish dates, reading goals and settings are written to a SQLite database in Folio's own private storage area on your device, readable only by Folio itself.
The one network request
Folio contacts exactly one third party, and only when you ask it to look a book up.

No identifier of yours accompanies the request — not an account, not a device ID. Google will receive the request's originating IP address, as it would for any web request. Your shelf, progress and notes are never sent.
The camera
The camera permission is used for one thing: reading an ISBN barcode. Frames are processed on your device to decode the number. No image is saved, and no image is uploaded — only the decoded ISBN is used, and only for the metadata lookup described above.
You can decline the camera permission and add books by searching or entering an ISBN by hand.

What we never collect
None of the following is collected, by design:
- Advertising identifiers, or any data used for advertising or profiling
- Contacts, calendar, SMS or call logs
- Data bought from, or shared with, data brokers
- Any cross-app or cross-site tracking
Children
Folio is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone — so there is no children's data for us to hold.
Deleting your data
Delete individual books, or clear the library from settings. Uninstalling Folio removes everything it stored. Export a backup first if you want to keep it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version ships with the Folio release it applies to and the date at the top changes. Material changes are surfaced in the app before they take effect.
